Nobody in this trade likes giving a price over the phone, and there’s a fair reason: I haven’t seen your floor yet. Two living rooms the same size can be a morning’s work apart once you lift the old carpet. What I can give you honestly is a range, and I’d rather you had that than nothing, because it’s your money and you’re trying to plan.
So here’s roughly where jobs land around Stroud and the Cotswolds this year. Every figure is a guide, not a quote.
Carpet, supplied and fitted
Most carpet jobs come out between £25 and £45 a square metre, supplied and fitted with proper underlay and gripper. What moves you up the range: wool over man-made, a heavy twist over a light one, awkward room shapes, and stairs (more on those below). A good man-made twist in a bedroom sits near the bottom; a wool heather through a lounge with bay windows sits near the top.
Karndean and LVT
Design floors run £70 to £110 a square metre fitted. That gap surprises people until they see where the money goes: the subfloor. Karndean is only as flat as what’s under it, so the prep is part of the job, not an extra nicety. A floor that’s been latexed properly will still look right in fifteen years. One that hasn’t will telegraph every ridge through the vinyl by Christmas.
Safety flooring
For wet rooms, kitchens and commercial spaces, £45 to £80 a square metre with the seams welded. Homes sit lower in the range; commercial units with coving and doorway details sit higher.
The quiet costs nobody quotes
These are the lines that turn a tidy phone quote into an awkward invoice if nobody mentions them up front, so I’ll mention them up front:
- Uplifting and disposing of the old floor: £3 to £6 a square metre
- Latex to level a rough subfloor: £8 to £15 a square metre
- A staircase in the job: add £80 to £150
A worked example
Hall, stairs and landing, roughly 16 m². In carpet, you’re looking at somewhere around £400 to £720 for the flat areas plus the staircase money — call it £500 to £870 all in. The same space in Karndean is a different conversation, £1,200 up, and honestly I’d talk you through whether it’s the right product for stairs at all before taking the order.
Get your own number
The guide price tool on the home page does this sum for your rooms in about a minute, and it’s the same honest maths: a range, not a promise. When you want the real figure, Shaun comes out with the samples, measures up, and puts it in writing. No charge, no hard sell — that’s the free home visit.
